NORTH CAROLINA — A man is facing multiple charges after deputies discovered three juveniles, drugs, and a firearm in an SUV following a pursuit in McDowell County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident began Wednesday when a deputy attempted to stop an SUV on Ashworth Road for a traffic violation.
After the vehicle was stopped, three juveniles were removed from the SUV.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a suspected amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a handgun, and cash.
Matthew James Lewis, 35, of Marion, was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun, and misdemeanor child abuse.
Authorities said Lewis was denied bond because he was already out on pretrial release at the time of his arrest.
