KENTUCKY — A man is in custody after deputies said he was found with methamphetamine and marijuana during a late-night traffic stop on Highway 461.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics detectives observed a vehicle traveling south on Highway 461 at more than 100 miles per hour while weaving between lanes. After stopping the vehicle, detectives reported smelling marijuana.
The driver, identified as 36-year-old James Ryan Brown of Independence, admitted marijuana had been smoked in the car. When Brown was asked to get out of the vehicle, deputies said they noticed a plastic bag sticking out of his sock. The bag was later determined to contain methamphetamine.
A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two additional bags of methamphetamine, two bags of marijuana, a glass pipe, and two sets of digital scales. Deputies said a total of 100.50 grams of methamphetamine and 8.1 grams of marijuana were seized.
Brown was arrested and charged with speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, careless driving, failure to maintain insurance, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation is ongoing. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about drug activity to contact its anonymous tip line at 606-679-8477 or submit a tip through its website.
