One person arrested following drug bust in Kansas

KANSAS — A Topeka man was arrested early Thursday following a traffic stop in southeast Topeka that led to the discovery of illegal narcotics.

According to the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled over a gold 2005 Infiniti shortly after midnight near Southeast Fremont Street and Irvingham Street.

The vehicle had an expired license plate that was not assigned to it.

During the stop, authorities discovered the driver, identified as 50-year-old Michael James Adams Sr. of Topeka, did not have a valid driver’s license and had an active bench warrant from Topeka.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and assisted in locating illegal drugs.

Adams was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail on multiple charges, including:

  • Distribution of an opiate, opium, narcotic, or certain stimulant
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use
  • Vehicle registration violations
  • Operating a vehicle without a valid license

The incident remains under investigation.
