INDIANA — A 33-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night after Indiana State Police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs, syringes, and a firearm.

Around 11:30 p.m., two troopers pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu on State Road 26 near Interstate 65 for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Mahlon Justice, 33, of West Lafayette.

During the stop, troopers noted signs of possible criminal activity and requested a K-9 from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department. The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, prompting a search.

Inside the Malibu, officers found suspected methamphetamine, hypodermic syringes, and a firearm. Investigators also determined Justice appeared to be operating the vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.

Justice was taken into custody and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail. The suspected methamphetamine was sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for testing.

He faces preliminary charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
