ILLINOIS — A Springfield woman was arrested late Tuesday night after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and prohibited weapons, according to police.
Officers with the Springfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop around 10:46 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2026, in the 500 block of South 4th Street in Springfield. Police said the stop was initiated after officers observed a white Jeep SUV failing to stop at marked crosswalks.
During the stop, officers identified a rear-seat passenger as Jessica Spencer, 34, who was not wearing a seatbelt and initially refused to identify herself. After providing her name, officers determined Spencer had an active Sangamon County warrant for failure to appear on a charge of manufacturing and delivery of methamphetamine.
Spencer was taken into custody, and a search revealed a small container in her pocket containing a white powdery substance. Police said Spencer admitted the substance was cocaine. A further search of the vehicle uncovered crack cocaine on the rear floorboard.
Officers also located a purse and a black bookbag containing a stun gun and brass knuckles, which Spencer confirmed belonged to her. A criminal history check showed Spencer is a convicted felon, making her ineligible to possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification card.
Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
