One person arrested following drug bust in Illinois

ILLINOIS — A Round Lake Park woman is facing multiple felony drug charges after being arrested during a traffic stop earlier this week and linked to an ongoing drug investigation, according to law enforcement officials.

Candice M. Wedge, 32, was pulled over around 10:48 p.m. Monday near Cambridge Parkway and Route 134 in Fox Lake for traffic violations.

According to Fox Lake Police Sgt. Rick Howell, Wedge was seen weaving between lanes and appeared “very nervous” and evasive when questioned by officers.

The Round Lake Park Police Department’s K-9 unit was called to the scene, and the dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

During a subsequent search, officers reportedly found approximately three grams of suspected crack cocaine on Wedge and about 60 grams more inside the vehicle, along with drug paraphernalia and a large amount of cash.

The drugs were located under the driver’s seat in a plastic bag containing individually wrapped baggies, police said.

Wedge was arrested at the scene, and both the drugs and vehicle were seized under the Illinois Drug Asset Forfeiture Procedure Act, pending court approval.

In connection with the traffic stop, Wedge was charged by Fox Lake police with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Class X felony), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Class 1 felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).

Additional charges stem from an earlier investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group (SIG), which revealed that Wedge had been selling drugs from her home to undercover informants.

A February search warrant at her Round Lake Park residence resulted in the seizure of cocaine, prescription pills not prescribed to her, and drug paraphernalia.

Following her recent arrest, SIG detectives worked with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to secure further charges related to that investigation. These include unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Class X felony), and multiple other felony drug possession charges.

The case remains under investigation.
