
GEORGIA — A man from Forest was arrested and multiple narcotics were seized following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning in Campbell County, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said John Thompson, 37, was stopped around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, in Rustburg. The stop involved a white Nissan sedan and was conducted with assistance from the Altavista Police Department K-9 unit.
During the investigation, authorities reported seizing a variety of suspected narcotics and other items, including approximately 35 grams of suspected fentanyl, about 75 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, unidentified pills, crack cocaine, cannabis, and cash.
Thompson is currently charged with possession with intent to distribute in connection with the suspected psilocybin mushrooms. The sheriff’s office said additional charges may be filed pending results from the Virginia Department of Forensic Science related to the seized substances.
