FLORIDA — A Pasco County man is facing multiple charges after an anonymous tip led Hillsborough County deputies to uncover drugs and a concealed firearm during a traffic stop in Tampa.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Khyas Smith earlier this month following an investigation into reports that he was distributing large amounts of narcotics across the Tampa area.
Detectives also learned Smith was allegedly arranging drug deals with plans to rob the buyers.
Using surveillance from HCSO’s Real Time Crime Center, deputies located Smith’s vehicle as it entered Hillsborough County.
They conducted a traffic stop due to illegal window tint. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies reported smelling a strong odor of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle uncovered fentanyl, a digital scale with white powder residue, drug paraphernalia, and a GSG Firefly .22 caliber firearm hidden in the center console, according to authorities.
Smith was arrested without incident and is facing several charges, including Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
