SOUTH CAROLINA — A 23-year-old man was arrested late Monday night on multiple gun and drug charges following a burglary investigation on Ashley Phosphate Road, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Police identified the suspect as Calestro Bernard Frazier. He is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, trafficking fentanyl (14 grams or more), distribution of methamphetamine, and possession of Schedule I and II narcotics.
According to the incident report, officers responded just before midnight on March 3 to a reported burglary at the North Charleston Lodge. After reviewing security footage, officers reportedly saw three individuals exit a room, enter a corridor, and then return to the same room. Hotel management informed police that only one guest was registered to the room.
Management and officers approached the room, knocked on the door and instructed the occupants to exit. As they complied, Frazier allegedly repeatedly reached toward his pockets and waistband. While officers attempted to gain control of him, he reportedly threw three plastic bags over the open walkway into the first-floor pool area below.
Authorities said the discarded bags contained substances that tested presumptively positive for cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine.
During the arrest process, Frazier told officers he had a firearm in his waistband. Police recovered the loaded firearm and transported him to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
