TENNESSEE — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an assault that occurred in the parking lot of a bar in northwest Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Police said Tristan Weatherspoon was taken into custody Tuesday night at an apartment on Cassell Valley Way with assistance from Crisis Negotiators and the Special Operations Squad. He is charged with aggravated assault.
Investigators said Weatherspoon was wanted in connection with an incident that happened during the early morning hours of March 28 in the parking lot of Peyton’s Place on Schubert Road.
According to police, a 19-year-old woman was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the victim suffered a bloodied and bruised face, along with additional bruising on her arms and abdomen. She told police she was sitting in her car when she saw two men arguing nearby and got out of the vehicle, at which point she was attacked.
Investigators said the woman was knocked to the ground and kicked and punched in the head and stomach. She told police she did not know the attackers.
Police said surveillance video helped identify Weatherspoon as a suspect. A security guard also told officers Weatherspoon had been removed from the bar for being loud and became irate before the assault.
Officials said Weatherspoon is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Thursday.
The investigation remains ongoing.
