TEXAS — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $1 million worth of methamphetamine and arrested a U.S. citizen during an inspection at the Roma International Bridge, authorities said.

The seizure occurred March 8 at the Roma Port of Entry when officers referred a 22-year-old man driving a 2013 Ford Explorer for secondary inspection.

During a non-intrusive scan and a physical search of the vehicle, officers discovered 53 packages containing a total of 121.34 pounds of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the SUV.

Officials said the narcotics have an estimated street value of $1,084,728.

CBP officers seized both the drugs and the vehicle.

Port Director Andres Guerra said the seizure highlights the work of officers who use training and inspection technology to intercept illegal drugs at the border.

“This seizure illustrates the ability of our frontline officers to apply training, inspection experience and technology to zero in on and take down a significant drug load,” Guerra said in a statement.

The driver was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents, who have opened a criminal investigation into the case.
