OHIO — A Toledo man was arrested early Friday morning following a reported domestic violence incident in Lakeview, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m. at a home on Blackhawk Path. Dispatchers reported that a woman calling for help sounded distressed and was crying, and could only respond to questions with yes-or-no answers.
The woman told deputies she had locked herself in a bathroom after being struck by 33-year-old Ray Ward Jr. When deputies arrived, they found Ward attempting to avoid law enforcement. Authorities said he initially refused to comply and went into the garage while ignoring commands.
Deputies later located Ward inside the home and placed him in handcuffs.
The victim told deputies Ward became aggressive during a discussion about her ex-husband and struck her in the face. She said she was able to escape to the bathroom and call 911. Deputies reported seeing redness on her cheek.
Ward denied hitting the woman, telling deputies her red cheeks were from tanning and claiming their interaction was only wrestling.
Authorities also discovered Ward had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was taken to the Logan County Jail and charged with domestic violence and assault. Deputies said Ward has a prior criminal history involving domestic violence charges.
