FLORIDA — A South Florida man is facing multiple drug trafficking charges after investigators say he sold fentanyl-laced drugs near a university campus and an elementary school.
According to authorities, 41-year-old Eddie Antonio Muniz of Doral was arrested Thursday following a narcotics investigation conducted by a multi-agency task force that included Florida International University police.
Investigators said Muniz sold fentanyl-laced MDMA, commonly known as “molly,” during several controlled purchases arranged by an undercover source. Officials said some of the transactions occurred within 1,000 feet of Sweetwater Elementary School, while another took place near Florida International University’s main campus.
Police said the alleged sales occurred on multiple dates in March. On March 3, Muniz reportedly sold about 1.5 grams of molly for $100. On March 12, he allegedly sold about three grams for $250, which later tested positive for fentanyl. On March 19, investigators said he sold molly and cocaine for $500, with the molly again testing positive for fentanyl.
Authorities said Muniz was taken into custody after selling approximately 30.5 grams of molly for $1,000 during a controlled operation Thursday.
A search warrant executed at his home in Doral led to the discovery of about 15 grams of molly and a semiautomatic handgun. Officials said Muniz did not have a concealed weapons permit.
Muniz is facing charges including trafficking fentanyl and MDMA, armed trafficking, and selling controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school.
Jail records show he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $21,500 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
