
FLORIDA — A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a donation box from an animal welfare center in Fort Walton Beach, according to police.
The Fort Walton Beach Police Department said officers responded around 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 3 to the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society on Lovejoy Road following a report that a donation box containing cash had been stolen.
According to a police news release, officers obtained surveillance video that captured the theft. With assistance from tips provided by the public, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 44-year-old Tony Salazar.
Police said Salazar later admitted to stealing the donation box during an interview with officers, describing the incident as a “crime of opportunity.”
Salazar was charged with petit theft.
