OHIO — An 18-year-old man from Dayton was arrested Monday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash.
Police were called to a home on Gunntown Road early Monday after a black 2016 Hyundai Elantra was reported stolen.
The vehicle’s owner told officers the car had last been seen at the residence around 2:00 p.m. the previous day and that no one had permission to take it.
They noticed it was missing after receiving a notification that their AirPods had disconnected from the car.
Shortly afterward, police spotted the stolen vehicle driving on East Columbus Avenue.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, turning off the headlights in an effort to evade capture.
The chase ended when the driver crashed into a fence on County Road 130.
Both the driver, identified as Austin Sawvell, 18, and a female passenger fled on foot through a nearby field but were quickly apprehended.
The female passenger was treated at the scene for crash-related injuries and taken to a hospital. Sawvell was arrested and booked into the Logan County Jail.
He faces multiple charges, including vehicle theft, fleeing police, and driving with a suspended license.
