FLORIDA — A man was arrested Tuesday after Tampa police said he stole a fire truck and was involved in a hit-and-run crash.

Authorities reported that 59-year-old Warren Scudder took the fire engine around 9:25 a.m. while firefighters were inside St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Scudder then crashed the vehicle into a gray Lexus SUV near Dr. King Boulevard and MacDill Avenue. The Lexus driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.

At 9:38 a.m., officers located the stolen fire truck and blocked it in the 4100 block of Poplar Avenue, taking Scudder into custody.

He has been charged with grand theft auto and hit-and-run, with additional charges possible. The investigation is ongoing.
