FLORIDA — A 19-year-old woman was arrested Friday in connection with the neglect of a severely malnourished dog found earlier this week in New Smyrna Beach, authorities said.
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department said officers located the emaciated dog in the 200 block of Inwood Avenue after receiving reports about its condition. Multiple people came forward with information that led investigators to identify the dog’s owner, officials said.
The dog, now named Olive, was taken to the Edgewater Animal Shelter and is reportedly recovering. Shelter staff say the dog has already gained about six pounds since arriving.
The woman, identified in police records as Arriana Washington, 19, of Port Orange, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals. She is being held on a $10,000 bond, according to records.
Police did not immediately release additional details about the investigation, but said the case remains under review.
