OHIO — A 53-year-old woman has been charged with felonious assault after allegedly stabbing her husband during an argument at their southeast Columbus home.
Rebecca Mitchell was arrested Friday following an incident involving her husband, Daryl Mitchell.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded to the 900 block of Seymour Avenue after receiving a report of a stabbing.
According to an affidavit, Daryl Mitchell arrived at the Columbus VA Medical Center around 12:10 p.m. with a stab wound to the chest, initially claiming he had been attacked during a robbery in an alley behind his home.
When officers went to the residence, they found Rebecca Mitchell, who confirmed she was Daryl’s wife.
Upon questioning, Rebecca told officers that she knew her husband had been stabbed and admitted the stabbing occurred inside their home during a verbal argument.
Rebecca was taken into custody at the scene. Daryl was later transported to Mount Carmel East, where he remains in critical condition and is not expected to survive his injuries.
Detectives with the Columbus Police Domestic Violence Unit and later the Homicide Unit interviewed Rebecca, who again admitted to stabbing her husband during a dispute.
Police recovered the suspected weapon from the home and documented the scene with photographs.
Rebecca Mitchell is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
