NORTH CAROLINA — A 20-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he fired into a vehicle carrying five people, including his girlfriend, following a prank phone call.
According to court documents, Shyhied Eugene Ivey was charged April 5 with seven felony counts, including discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle in operation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Investigators said the incident began when Ivey’s girlfriend and another person placed a prank phone call intended to provoke him. After the call, the group was driving when Ivey allegedly followed them in a black sedan, driving aggressively and firing a gun into the air.
At the intersection of Freedom Drive and Wesley Village Road, police said Ivey pulled alongside the vehicle and fired multiple shots into it. One round shattered the rear window, but no injuries were reported.
Police said traffic cameras captured the incident, and a shell casing was recovered at the scene. Investigators also said Ivey sent a message to one of the occupants after the shooting.
Ivey, who is a convicted felon, is also charged with possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. The case remains under investigation.
