FLORIDA — A 22-year-old Lake City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly firing multiple shots at a cyclist, according to the Lake City Police Department.

Officers responded to a gunshot alert on Northwest Railroad Street, where witnesses reported hearing five to six shots and seeing a small, brown vehicle speeding away from the scene.

Upon arrival, police spotted a man, later identified as Jakai Williams, picking up shell casings near a grey Mazda sedan.

When Williams saw the officers, he fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.

Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted and located Williams shortly afterward near Southwest Linden Loop, where he was taken into custody.

An investigation revealed that Williams had approached a cyclist, made a verbal threat, exited his vehicle, and fired several rounds in the victim’s direction before fleeing.

Fortunately, the cyclist was not injured and was later able to positively identify both Williams and the vehicle involved.

Williams is currently being held at the Columbia County Detention Center. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
