
SOUTH CAROLINA — A reported road rage incident in North Charleston on Sunday morning led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man and the discovery of illegal drugs and a firearm, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Police said officers were called to Rivers Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a road rage encounter near the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Aviation Avenue.
The victims told officers they were stopped at a traffic light when a truck pulled alongside them and intentionally released black exhaust in their direction. When the victims later caught up to the truck, they reported that the driver pointed a handgun at them.
Officers located the suspect vehicle in a nearby parking lot and took the driver into custody. The suspect was identified as Juan Carlos Velasquez, 22.
During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded handgun, fentanyl, and heroin. Velasquez was charged with two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
