INDIANA — A South Bend woman is in custody after police discovered a significant quantity of drugs, including a dangerous sedative, during a fugitive investigation on Friday.

Officers were investigating on Marietta Street in South Bend when they arrested 35-year-old Ashley Wardlow, who was wanted on charges of Possession of Meth and Possession of a Narcotic Drug.

During the investigation, authorities found more than a pound of a mixture believed to contain cocaine and Xylazine, a powerful animal sedative that is increasingly being mixed with opioids.

Xylazine does not respond to Narcan, making it especially dangerous in overdose situations.

Police say this is the largest amount of the substance ever discovered in the community. Wardlow was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and now faces additional charges of Possession of a Narcotic Drug and Possession of Cocaine.

Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
