TENNESSEE — A 27-year-old Dyersburg man is facing multiple charges after a police pursuit ended in a crash at a stretch of road known as “Dead Man’s Curve,” according to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said JaShawn Branch fled from a traffic stop initiated by the Newbern Police Department for speeding. Officials said Branch sped away, prompting a brief pursuit that was later called off due to public safety concerns.
Investigators said Branch later turned his vehicle around and struck an officer’s vehicle head-on, causing minor injuries to an investigator.
A second pursuit was initiated, traveling through Dyersburg, Lauderdale County, and back into Dyer County. Authorities said Branch eventually crashed in the 3000 block of Highway 104 near Finley, an area commonly referred to as “Dead Man’s Curve.”
Branch was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
He faces charges including felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license and aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. Officials said additional charges may be pending.
The investigation remains ongoing.
