INDIANA — A driver is in custody after police say he sped through a school zone, refused to stop for officers, and crashed into another vehicle Friday morning on the city’s northeast side.
According to police, an officer was patrolling a school zone on St. Joe Center Road shortly before 9 a.m. when a black Ford Mustang sped past. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly failed to pull over.
Police said the Mustang later collided with another vehicle carrying two occupants. Following the crash, both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest on a nearby property close to the bridge in the 2400 block of St. Joe Center Road.
Authorities said the driver of the Mustang attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended a short time later. An ambulance responded as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
A K-9 unit was brought to the scene to search for possible illegal substances. One eastbound lane of St. Joe Center Road was temporarily closed during the investigation, though traffic continued to move through the area.
