TENNESSEE — A 24-year-old man faces multiple animal cruelty charges after deputies discovered several dead animals at his property on Cash Hollow Road.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said deputies responded to the 400 block of Cash Hollow Road on Sunday after reporting a strong odor of decaying animals near a barn.
Authorities found a pig, two domesticated rabbits, and 10 chickens dead on the property. “Miller stated that a raccoon killed the 10 dead chickens,” the sheriff’s office said. Deputies also discovered decaying animals in feed bags. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture confirmed that the deceased rabbits were domesticated.
A dog chained outside the barn did not have access to clean water. “The bucket of water Miller indicated was the dog’s water source was filled with algae and worms,” the WCSO said. Miller surrendered the dog to animal control.
Zachary N. Miller was charged with four counts of animal cruelty. He is out on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Additional charges related to improper disposal of dead livestock may be filed by the Department of Agriculture.
