NORTH CAROLINA — A Henderson County man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say they discovered a severely neglected dog in his care.
According to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, animal enforcement officers responded on March 20 to a report of a contained stray dog. During their investigation, deputies located the animal and found it in poor condition.
Officials reported that the dog appeared malnourished, with its ribs and spine clearly visible. The animal was also being kept in an unclean kennel where feces were present, according to authorities.
Investigators arrested 33-year-old Keith Wesley Greene, of Hendersonville, in connection with the case. He has been charged with cruelty to animals.
The dog was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment and is currently receiving care.
The investigation remains ongoing.
