FLORIDA — A 16-year-old driver was arrested early Monday morning after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in a stolen car that ended with a crash into a building.
Authorities said the teen was driving a stolen blue Hyundai sedan when he fled from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Florida Highway Patrol units spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 4 and attempted a stop. The chase reached speeds of up to 100 mph, with the driver at one point traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.
Trooper Rivera used a PIT maneuver twice during the pursuit. The first attempt failed, but the second caused the car to crash into a building at 1028 W. Michigan Street.
The driver, who was wearing a black ski mask, tried to flee on foot after the crash but was caught and tasered before being handcuffed.
The incident began when the Sanford Regional Communications Center issued a Be On The Lookout notice around 12:03 a.m. The Lake Mary Police Department initially pursued the vehicle before backup was requested.
The teen is now facing multiple charges related to the chase and crash.
