FLORIDA — A Florida man was arrested early March 22 after deputies say they discovered cocaine and methamphetamine hidden under the floorboards of his car during a traffic stop.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle shortly after 3 a.m. after observing it traveling more than 100 mph in a 35 mph zone with its hazard lights activated.
When a deputy approached the driver, identified as 28-year-old Mario Mena Hernandez, he indicated he could not speak English. Authorities said the deputy used a translation tool connected to a body camera to communicate with him.
Hernandez told deputies he had activated his hazard lights so a friend could see him while he was driving, according to officials.
During the stop, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found baggies containing cocaine and methamphetamine concealed beneath the car’s floorboards. Authorities also reported finding nearly $10,000 in cash inside the vehicle.
Investigators said Hernandez did not have a valid driver’s license.
He was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving and possession with intent to sell-related charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
The case remains under investigation.
