SOUTH CAROLINA — A Summerville man was arrested following an early-morning traffic stop in Summerville, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said 42-year-old Harold Eugene Grooms is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to officials, deputies were conducting proactive patrols Tuesday morning in the Knightsville area near Central Avenue and Roberts Road when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.
During the stop, deputies made contact with Grooms, who told them he had illegal narcotics. That admission led to a probable-cause search of the vehicle.
Investigators said deputies located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance along with a glass smoking pipe. The substance was field tested and returned a presumptive positive for methamphetamine, weighing approximately 1.5 grams.
Grooms was taken into custody and booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation.
