SOUTH CAROLINA — A dog owner is facing an animal cruelty charge after deputies found a malnourished dog at a motel in Greenville County early Friday morning, authorities said.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance call at the motel and discovered a dog named Coco that appeared to be severely undernourished. Investigators said the dog had not received proper care from her owner for more than a month.
Deputies reported that the owner admitted to failing to provide Coco with adequate food and necessary medical treatment. As a result, the owner was charged with ill-treatment of animals.
During the encounter, deputies provided Coco with treats and ensured she was safe. The dog was then taken to Greenville Animal Care, where officials said she will receive proper nutrition and medical attention as she recovers.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that it takes all reports of animal neglect seriously, noting that animals rely on people for protection when they are unable to care for or defend themselves. Deputies said they hope Coco’s future will be much brighter following her rescue and care at the animal facility.
