VIRGINIA — A man was arrested Monday after crashing his vehicle into a gas station in Covington while allegedly under the influence of drugs.
At around 11:43 a.m. on May 5, officers from the Covington Division of Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck the Exxon station on Durant Road.
When they arrived, they found a red Ford Ranger that had crashed into the front of the building.
The driver, identified as Jacob Lee Elmore of Alleghany County, appeared disoriented.
Officers reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from Elmore, who was then subjected to field sobriety tests. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs (DUID).
Elmore was held overnight at the Alleghany Regional Jail and is scheduled for a bond hearing.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Police say no further information is available at this time.
