One person arrested after crashing into cars, fleeing traffic stop in Kentucky

KENTUCKY — A 21-year-old man is behind bars after police say he crashed into two vehicles, including an unmarked Louisville Metro Police car, while trying to escape a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle earlier this week.

According to an arrest report, officers spotted a stolen 2024 Nissan Sentra around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 on Dixie Highway.

The driver, identified as Treyshaun Shelton, turned into a car dealership lot before reentering the highway, heading north in the southbound lanes.

Police said Shelton refused to stop, drove recklessly through heavy lunchtime traffic, and intentionally rammed an unmarked police vehicle with an officer inside.

He also struck another vehicle carrying two people before abandoning the Nissan near Kingsford Drive and attempting to flee on foot.

During the chase, officers said Shelton threw a semi-automatic gun under a vehicle. An LMPD K-9 unit later recovered the weapon. Shelton admitted to running from police and acknowledged hitting both vehicles, according to the report. Damages were estimated at $1,000.

Shelton was charged with receiving stolen property, two counts of wanton endangerment, reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, driving without a license, criminal mischief, and tampering with physical evidence.

He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections and is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
