NORTH CAROLINA — A man was arrested last week after deputies discovered stolen catalytic converters and prescription pills during a traffic stop in Statesville.
Authorities said Coty Speight was initially stopped on Wednesday, Sept. 3, along Salisbury Highway. A K-9 alerted to narcotics in the vehicle, leading deputies to find 25.5 alprazolam pills and 11 catalytic converters in the trunk.
Speight allegedly claimed he owned a recycling company but provided limited documentation. Detectives later confirmed the recycling permits he presented had expired.
An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday, Sept. 4, and Speight was apprehended the following day after reportedly attempting to sell some of the stolen catalytic converters. He is charged with felony possession of catalytic converters.
