OHIO — A Toledo man was taken into custody after a late-night standoff with police that ended when a SWAT team forced entry into his home, according to authorities.

Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Crencencio Morales. He faces multiple charges, including inducing panic, aggravated menacing, strangulation, domestic violence and assault on a police officer.

Officers responded shortly before midnight Friday to the 100 block of West Foulkes Street following reports of a domestic violence incident. A woman at the home told police that Morales had placed his hands around her neck and strangled her during an argument.

According to the Toledo Police Department incident report, Morales initially came outside but then went back inside the house and barricaded himself when officers approached.

Police said Morales refused to surrender and made threats toward officers and their families, telling authorities he would not be taken alive. The situation prompted police to call in a 13-member SWAT entry team and evacuate nearby homes as a precaution.

SWAT officers eventually forced their way into the residence. Authorities said Morales fought with officers as they attempted to arrest him.

Morales suffered a facial injury during the encounter and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later booked into custody and was scheduled to appear Monday morning in Toledo Municipal Court for arraignment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
