KENTUCKY — A Russell County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking employees at a Papa John’s restaurant in Glasgow with a hammer, according to police.
The Glasgow Police Department responded Saturday evening to a report of an assault at the restaurant on Happy Valley Road. Officers were told that employees had been attacked and that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Aaron Kelly of Russell Springs, was being restrained by workers at the scene.
According to a uniform citation, investigators say Kelly entered the business through a back door and began assaulting employees with a hammer. Several employees suffered injuries during the incident.
Police say workers fought back and were able to subdue Kelly until officers arrived. One employee reportedly struck Kelly during the struggle.
Authorities also say a woman reported that Kelly approached her vehicle before the attack, asking for cigarettes and a gun. He then allegedly took a hammer from the vehicle, which was later found in his possession.
Officers noted that Kelly appeared to be under the influence of a substance at the time of the incident.
Kelly was taken into custody after being medically cleared and transported to the Barren County Detention Center. He is charged with first-degree assault, public intoxication involving a controlled substance, and theft by unlawful taking from a vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing.
