CONCORD TOWNSHIP — A fatal two-vehicle crash on Saturday morning has claimed the life of one person and left two others injured in Concord Township.
The accident occurred just after 11 a.m. on North State Route 560 at Church Road.
According to reports from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, a tan 2006 Chevrolet truck traveling southbound collided head-on with a northbound 2005 GMC truck driven by 21-year-old Wade Cook, of Urbana.
Cook’s passenger, also 21, was identified as Bryce Zumwalt, also from Urbana.
The force of the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road and into a nearby field, with the GMC truck coming to rest on its side, trapping Cook and Zumwalt inside.
Fire and EMS units worked to extricate the men from the wreckage, and both were airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight helicopters for treatment.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identity.
The Champaign County 911 Center received multiple calls reporting the crash, which prompted a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Multi-County Joint Crash Investigation Team, and several fire and EMS units were on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
