OKLAHOMA — A Bethany Middle School employee was arrested Wednesday after police say the individual was caught using a THC vape device on school property.

According to the Bethany Police Department, officers responded to the school after receiving a report that an employee had been using a THC vape in a bathroom inside the building.

An investigation determined the employee was legally prohibited from using or possessing THC products, police said. The individual was taken into custody for possession of a vape device containing THC on school grounds.

Bethany Public Schools confirmed that no students were involved in the incident.

In a statement sent to families, district officials said an electronic cigarette and vape detector alerted administrators to activity in a middle school restroom. School officials quickly responded and determined that a support staff member had likely been responsible. Law enforcement was contacted, and the employee was taken into custody.

The district emphasized that students were not in danger at any time and that the situation was handled promptly to maintain normal school operations.

School officials also stated that staff members are held to high standards of conduct and compliance with school policies and state law. The district said it is cooperating fully with the Bethany Police Department and will follow established employee discipline procedures, which could result in separation from the district.

The matter remains under investigation.
