OHIO — A winter storm expected to hit central Ohio this weekend could delay the return to school for many students as heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions loom.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington has issued a winter storm watch for Columbus and surrounding counties, predicting five to 10 inches of snow and mixed precipitation between Sunday morning and Monday evening.
Counties under the watch include Franklin, Union, Delaware, Madison, Licking, and Fairfield, among others.
With most local schools set to reopen Monday after winter break, the storm’s timing could lead to closures or delays.
Snowfall of up to 10 inches is possible by Monday, making travel challenging for buses, parents, and school staff.
Columbus has already received about two inches of snow from overnight showers Thursday into Friday. A brief break in snowfall is expected over the weekend, but conditions will worsen again starting Sunday afternoon.
Local districts are closely monitoring the storm’s path and preparing for potential disruptions. Some schools may opt for remote learning or extend winter break to ensure student safety.
Parents are encouraged to stay informed of school updates and weather advisories.
Many districts are expected to make closure decisions by Sunday evening or early Monday morning.
