OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a “successful OVI checkpoint” in Sandusky County on Friday night, resulting in two impaired driving arrests.
The checkpoint was held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 19 along Rawson Avenue in Fremont. According to officials, 708 vehicles passed through. Two drivers were diverted for further investigation, and one was arrested for impaired driving and child endangerment.
A total of 15 officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, and Fremont Police Department worked the checkpoint.
Following the operation, law enforcement conducted saturation patrols throughout the county, stopping 25 additional vehicles. One more driver was arrested for impaired driving during those patrols.
Officials emphasized the effort was aimed at educating motorists on the dangers of drinking and driving. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld sobriety checkpoints in 1990, ruling they are constitutional if conducted under specific guidelines, including advance public notice.
