OHIO — The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling Tuesday that will determine the future of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The ruling follows a request from the Trump administration seeking to continue blocking states from providing full SNAP benefits. The administration argues that funding may be needed for other federal priorities during the shutdown.
However, a federal appeals court has ordered that full SNAP funding must resume by Tuesday night unless the Supreme Court intervenes.
In Ohio, the Department of Job and Family Services announced that partial SNAP benefits for November are scheduled to be distributed as early as Wednesday. Under new guidelines from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Ohio recipients will see about a 35% reduction in benefits this month.
Individual benefit amounts will vary based on income, housing expenses, medical costs, and other qualifying factors.
State officials are advising SNAP participants to monitor their benefit statements and to contact local offices with questions about their adjusted allotments.
