OHIO — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent increase in car break-ins, urging the community to take precautions.
According to a social media post from the sheriff’s office, multiple juveniles wearing hoodies were caught on surveillance cameras going through unlocked vehicles in the Merrimont and Brokenwoods neighborhoods early Saturday morning.
Authorities say the same individuals also targeted cars in Tipp City, where one vehicle was stolen.
The sheriff’s office noted that youth from the Dayton area have been targeting neighborhoods near I-75, looking for unlocked vehicles and valuables left inside.
Despite previous arrests related to similar crimes, the break-ins continue.
The sheriff’s office is advising residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables, and turn on exterior lights at night to deter criminal activity.
In response to the recent incidents, deputies will increase patrols in the affected neighborhoods.
