Ohio senator backs new tariffs on Canada, Mexico

OHIO — Ohio U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno has voiced his full support for President Donald Trump’s newly imposed tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico.

In a recent post on X, Moreno stated, “I fully support President Trump’s move to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Both countries have failed to protect America from drug trafficking and illegal migration.”

The tariffs include a 25% duty on most Canadian and Mexican imports, with a 10% tariff on Canadian energy products. Imports from China are also facing a 10% tariff.

While some economists warn that these measures could raise prices for American consumers, Moreno believes the move will benefit Ohio businesses.

“Ohio is open for business and will roll out the red carpet for any company manufacturing in America!” he added.

Ohio, with its strong manufacturing base, could see both challenges and opportunities from the tariffs.

Industries that rely on imported materials may face higher costs, but domestic manufacturers could benefit from reduced foreign competition.

However, with Canada and Mexico planning retaliatory tariffs, Ohio’s exports—particularly in the automotive and agricultural sectors—could also be affected.

As the situation develops, Ohio business leaders and consumers will be watching closely to see how these trade policies impact the state’s economy.
