OHIO — Springfield City Schools closed all district buildings Monday due to what officials described as a “potential safety concern” within the district.
A spokesperson for the school district said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution. District officials emphasized there was no indication of an immediate threat to school buildings and that they are working closely with law enforcement.
At the same time, city officials asked residents and visitors to avoid the downtown Springfield area near police departments and court buildings because of safety concerns affecting traffic and access.
The City of Springfield said the affected streets include Fountain Avenue, Columbia Street, North Street, and Limestone Street. Motorists were encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
Authorities said law enforcement and city officials remain on scene and are continuing to investigate. Updates are expected as more information becomes available.
