OHIO — A review of school district calendars across Ohio shows that numerous districts will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2026, in observance of Good Friday, though closures vary by district.
Several large and mid-sized districts have confirmed closures. Akron Public Schools will be closed as part of its spring break schedule, which runs through April 3, with both schools and offices shut down that day. Meanwhile, Dayton Public Schools lists Good Friday as a district holiday with all schools closed.
Other districts across the state are also observing the holiday. Dover City Schools has scheduled both schools and offices to be closed on April 3. Bedford City School District lists “Good Friday – No School for All” on its official calendar.
In southwest Ohio, Middletown City School District identifies April 3 specifically as Good Friday with no classes scheduled. Similarly, Washington Court House City Schools notes “Good Friday: No School” for that date.
Northern Ohio districts are also affected. Norwalk City School District lists Good Friday as a no-school day. Cuyahoga Falls City School District similarly marks April 3 as “No School – Good Friday.”
In addition to individual holiday observances, some districts are closed because Good Friday falls during spring break. For example, Franklin City Schools has no classes for students or staff throughout the week of March 30 through April 3.
Overall, the data shows that a significant number of Ohio school districts will be closed on April 3, 2026, either specifically for Good Friday or as part of scheduled spring break. However, because school calendars are set locally, not all districts observe the holiday, and some may remain open or operate on modified schedules.
School officials advise families to check directly with their local district for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
