Ohio resident dead following shooting incident in West Virginia

WEST VIRGINIA — A fatal shooting in West Virginia has left a 31-year-old Ohio woman dead and a man facing a first-degree murder charge.

According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers and deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the community of Maysel in Clay County on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

When authorities arrived at the residence, they located the victim, Savannah Keaton, 31, of Massillon, Ohio, inside the home. Keaton was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators identified the suspect as Richard Grad, 24, of Maysel, West Virginia. Police allege Grad fled the scene following the shooting. State police said he later met investigators at an alternate location, where he surrendered without incident.

Grad has been charged with first-degree murder. Following his arraignment, he was transported to Central Regional Jail.

Officials confirmed that Keaton’s family has been notified. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
