KENTUCKY — An Ohio man is facing multiple charges after a high-speed pursuit Monday evening involving Knox County deputies and Barbourville police.
According to Knox County dispatch, deputies were alerted around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 that 34-year-old Michael Carvoo of Canton, Ohio, was allegedly driving recklessly on US 25E, reportedly traveling more than 95 mph in a 55 mph zone as he headed south through Barbourville.
Court documents state that Carvoo allegedly attempted to force deputies off the road during the pursuit. Deputies and Barbourville officers continued the chase along US 25E, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph. Authorities reported that Carvoo ran multiple red lights, nearly caused several head-on crashes, and almost struck multiple vehicles.
Investigators said Carvoo eventually turned onto Old Pineville Pike, where he lost control and struck an embankment. Officers reported pulling him from the driver’s side window after he allegedly refused to exit the vehicle.
Carvoo was arrested and charged with eight offenses, including first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, disregarding traffic lights, speeding 26 mph over the limit, resisting arrest, failure to wear a seat belt, and failure to produce an insurance card.
He is being held at the Knox County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 4.
