OHIO — Two people were arrested Friday after police discovered five children living in what officers described as “uninhabitable” conditions inside a west Toledo home.
According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to the 4100 block of Lewis Avenue around 11 a.m. for a welfare check on two toddlers reportedly being neglected.
Upon arrival, officers found the children unsupervised and the home in conditions deemed “unfitting for human habitation,” according to an affidavit.
Police arrested the children’s parents, 37-year-old Joseph Pfaff and 35-year-old Tiffany Douglas.
Both were charged with first-degree misdemeanor counts of Endangering Children.
The five children, ranging in age from toddlers to school-age, were placed in the custody of Lucas County Children Services.
Pfaff pleaded not guilty during a court appearance on Monday. Douglas faces additional fifth-degree felony charges for Possession of Controlled Substance – Cocaine and Possession of a Schedule I or II Substance.
Police said she was allegedly found with small bags of fentanyl and cocaine.
Both Pfaff and Douglas were arraigned Monday in Toledo Municipal Court and released on their own recognizance.
