Ohio murder suspect arrested out of state

OHIO — A man wanted for a murder in Cleveland nearly a year ago was arrested in Las Vegas on Thursday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Daryl Patton, 29, was taken into custody by the Nevada Violent Offender Task Force in the 3900 block of Cambridge Street, near Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway.

Patton was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder.

Authorities say the case stems from a shooting in January, when Martin Johnson, 27, was found on his front lawn with a gunshot wound to the waist.

Johnson was pronounced dead at a hospital. Investigators later identified Patton as the suspect in the shooting.

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force learned Patton had left the state and was living in Las Vegas. The information led to his arrest this week.

“This violent fugitive fled 2,000 miles across the country in an attempt to avoid arrest,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. “This collaborative arrest is the ultimate example of the nationwide reach and teamwork amongst the United States Marshals Service.”

Patton is expected to be extradited to Ohio to face charges.
