Ohio man’s interstate escape ends in arrest

OHIO — A wild police chase unfolded on Interstate 65 in Indiana on Friday as an Ohio man’s attempt to evade law enforcement took several dramatic turns.

According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Carlson responded to a crash involving a 2008 Toyota Camry near the 206-mile marker, just north of the Rensselaer/Remington exit.

Upon arriving, Trooper Carlson discovered the driver was providing a false identity.

Further investigation revealed the man was wanted for a probation violation related to violent crimes.

When Trooper Carlson attempted to detain him, the suspect forcibly pulled away and fled across multiple lanes of traffic.

The man ran into a ditch and nearby field as Trooper Carlson and his K9 partner, Cooper, prepared to track him.

However, the suspect reemerged from the ditch and attempted a desperate maneuver—driving his car off the back of a tow truck that had arrived at the scene.

The tow truck operator narrowly avoided injury by fleeing on foot.

Despite his efforts, the suspect surrendered to police shortly afterward.

A search revealed marijuana and suspected heroin in his possession, confirmed by K9 Cooper’s alert.

Further investigation determined the probation violation was non-extraditable.

Nonetheless, the man was taken to the Jasper County Jail and booked on multiple charges, including:

• Possession of a Controlled Substance (Level 6 Felony)
• Intimidation (Level 6 Felony)
• False Identity Statement (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Possession of Marijuana (Class A Misdemeanor)

The incident underscores the dangers law enforcement face and the lengths some suspects will go to evade capture.
