OHIO — A man remains on the loose after escaping police custody on Monday in Northeast Ohio.
Elyria Police responded to an apartment on Monday night for a welfare check, where they discovered 31-year-old Donte Jamar Parker II hiding inside.
Police took Parker into custody on outstanding felony warrants, but as he was being escorted from the apartment, he fled from officers.
On Tuesday, surveillance footage showed Parker heading toward a wooded area near the Black River.
This prompted a second, intensive search of the area. Search teams even rappelled down a hillside to get a closer look at the river and its banks.
However, the operation was temporarily suspended due to safety concerns.
By Wednesday, despite hazardous ice conditions preventing the use of rescue boats, emergency personnel resumed searching the waterline and surrounding areas on foot and with drones.
As of now, Parker has not been located.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Larson at (440) 326-1211. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.cityofelyria.org/tips.
